Two Day Tour to the North
Tour I: Visiting Caesarea, Tzippori, Sefat, Tel Dan Nature Reserve, Golan Heights, Har Ben Tal, Katzrin, and a winery. This tour can be expanded into a 3 day tour adding more sites or more hikes.
Day 1: Depart Jerusalem (8 am) and travel to the north. Our first stop will be the ancient RomanCity of Caesarea, where we will see what great discoveries have been revealed here including the theatre, bath house, Herod’s port, and the Crusader fortress. From here we’ll travel to Tzippori, where Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi wrote the Mishna. This small town housed not only the great rabbis of the Sanhedrin, but also, at the very same time, had a very large Hellenistic population that left a legacy of wonderful mosaics, including the "Mona Lisa of the Galilee." As we visit this ancient city, we’ll try to understand how the 2 very different populations could live side by side. Our journey continues onto Sefat, city of the mystics, where we'll explore its alleyways, synagogues, and various art galleries. Lodgings in north:
Day 2: Begin our day with a wonderful nature hike at Tel Dan, a beautiful nature reserve whose waters feed into the Jordan River. Then drive through the Golan Heights and along the Syrian border to the Summit of the Ben Tal volcano for a spectacular view of Syria. From here we’ll travel to Katzrin, known as the capital of the Golan Heights. We’ll visit the restored ancient Talmudic Village to get an idea how people lived in this area during the 4th and 5th centuries. We’ll also go to the Golan Winery where you’ll learned the fine art of Kosher wine making and afterwards have a chance to sample some of the wines as well. Return to Jerusalem.
